About Dr. La-Toya Gaines: With an impressive academic journey, Dr. La-Toya Gaines earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and her Master’s and Doctor of Clinical Psychology at the Michigan School of Psychology. Over the past decade, she has honed her skills as a therapist, educator, and faculty member, shaping the future of the mental health field. In 2016, she founded Family Matters Counseling and Psychological Services, Inc., specializing in child and family psychology, self-esteem and self-confidence for young women, and the culturally unique emotional needs of Black women. Her professional goal? To empower Black women to shed the weight of being a Strong Black Woman and embrace self-care as an act of self-love.
